How to use the banana leaf for the functions

In India, especially in the Hindu families, the functions, festivals and Pujas are not complete without the banana leaf. The banana leaf will be used for serving food within the house and in the Public. The banana leaf will be used in every functions for different reasons. The banana leaf can be found everywhere, whenever (or) wherever there is a Puja being done.

There is a custom/belief/tradition attached to the banana leaf, while being it is used to serve foods for the guests. The banana leaf should be folded from the upper half to the lower half (after finised eating the food) under the following conditions.

While attending the auspicious functions like wedding, house warming ceremony and naming ceremony.
When a person wants to continue the cordial relationship with the host family.
If a guest want to show his satisfaction towards the host.

The banana leaf should be folded from the lower half to the upper half (after finised eating the food) under the following conditions.

While attending any inauspicious ceremony like death (or) remembrance ceremony.
When a person want to terminate any further relationship with the host.
If a guest wants to express his/her dissatisfaction to the host.

Answer to the Question:

If you have folded the banana leaf from the lower half towards the upper half in any auspicious function, then go and personally apologize to your host and correct it by having food in the correct manner once again.
If the host is not related (or) unknown to you, then falk a vow not to repeat the same mistake once again in your life.
