SATHVIKA, RAKSHASA AND THAMASA CHARACTERS

As per the Hindu Vedic Astrology, every planets has a character of its own. The Characters are divided into 3 categories. Let us see the details of these characters.

 Sathvika Guna (Peaceful and Good Characters): The Jupiter (Guru) and the ascending Moon (Chandra) comes under this category. These Planets would always maintain good characters and would not be influenced by the association of any malefice characters.

 Rajo Guna (Tempting and Inducing Characters): The Mars (Kuja) and the Venus (Sukra) are the two planets that come under this categories. Both these Planets would induce and tempt every person to have interest in the Wordly entertainment and benefits. 

 Thamasa Guna (Neutral and Inert Characters): The Sun (Suriya), Mercury (Budha) and Saturn (Shani) would come under this categories. These Planets do not have any specific character of its own. But would display the Sathvik character, if it aligns with Jupiter (Guru) and Moon (Chandra) and displays Rajo Guna (Character), if it aligns with Mars (Kuja) and Venus (Sukra). 

 The Raghu and Kethu do not have any character of its own. But would exhibit the character of the planet, on whose House, both Raghu and Kethu are placed. Next we study the details of all three Gunas (Characters) in the coming days.

WHAT IS KALA SANDHI?

As we know, the word "Sandhi" means the Junction or meeting place. Here the Kala Sandhi denotes the meeting time of two kalams (Periods), @ night and day kalams. The 48 minutes (2 naligai) during both Sunset and Sunrise are called as "Kala Sandhi". The 24 minutes (1 naligai) before the Sunset and Sunrise and 24 minutes (1 naligai) after the Sunset and Sunrise comes under this "Kala Sandhi". WHAT IS NAKSHATRA SANDHI?

As we know the word Sandhi means the Junction or meeting place. Hence the Nakshatra Sandhi means the meeting point of two Nakshatras. There are 27 Nakshatras that are taken into consideration in the Hindu Vedic Astrology. The Moon travels through each Nakshatras starting from Aswini and ending in Revathi. But the movement is a continious basis. Thus after completing the journey through all the 27 stars, the Moon exits the Revathi Nakshatra and again starts its next round of journey from Aswini, without any break. Thus the Moon goes around the 27 Nakshatras on a continous basis. The entry and exit time of the Moon into the 27 Nakshatras varies around 24 hours. The Last 48 minutes or 2 Naligai (Naligai is a measure of time that equals 24 minutes) during the entry and exit into a Nakshatra by the Moon is called as "Nakshatra Sandhi".
